Choosing The Right LMS To Handle Your Company’s Training Courses

If you are interested in having your employees benefit from elearning, this isn’t a goal you can achieve overnight. Elearning is still a relatively new process and there aren’t enough books to cover everything you need to know about it. At this point in time, you will have to learn a lot of things from experience. If you wish to maximize the benefits of elearning for your company, start by understanding how students are able to obtain courses from an LMS.

LMS stands for learning management system and it’s a software application you have to use if you wish to teach and train your employees through electronic means. The LMS you choose should offer the following features to allow students to finish their courses with relative ease.

Course Information – The first thing your LMS should be ready to give is information about courses. This includes but is not limited to a brief but detailed description regarding each and every offered course by the company, how many lessons are included in each course, how much time it will take to complete the course, how much tuition and other related fees will cost, and possible job opportunities linked to completing the said course.

Student Registry and Enrollment Process – Your LMS should be a one-man-department that can handle student registry and enrollment. A web master may be hired to oversee the LMS and ensure that everything runs smoothly each day. The LMS should be capable of processing applications whether it’s been sent online, over the phone, by mail, or done in person.

Your LMS should also determine who automatically gets in, fails, or requires personal assessment from your company. It must be able to determine as well which students go to which course and “virtual classroom” as well as the maximum number of students for each group.

The LMS you choose should also be capable of tracking tuition payments and sending out notifications and alerts to the necessary individuals regarding payment deadlines and problems.

Course Delivery – Not everyone will be able to instantly understand how an LMS works so it’s important for your system to offer a student demo on how things work. A FAQ section must also be put up to automatically answer all possible questions new students may have. Lastly, a student hotline, preferably offering round the clock service, must also be available so that questions not covered by the FAQ section can be immediately responded to.

Login details should be emailed or mailed immediately to successfully enrolled students. Regular and automatic notifications should also be sent if the teacher has uploaded a new file or assigned a new task or project and if the student has performed a required task.

Students must have ready access to their grades and be able to monitor their progress themselves. The LMS should also allow students and teachers to communicate conveniently with each other if either desires a private consultation.

Course Completion – An LMS should be able to take care of the necessary details for a student to successfully complete a course. When that happens, the LMS should put the wheels in motion for the student to acquire his diploma or course completion certificate. Either should be duly noted and approved by the necessary authorities.

Elearning is greatly beneficial for any company but only as long as the right LMS is in use.
